EU Grundtvig Workshop

“The local dog training club’s role as part in developing lifelong learning activities and local community development – with a special focus on quality and of structure in the learning process”.

A local society that is a good place to live has a wide spectre of local clubs, organisations and activities –where people can meet, talk to each other and practice their favourite activity. Many people want to have a dog, and they need access to healthy and good dog activities as well as how to learn their dog to behave, to learn about mental training, contact training etc. To talk to other dog handlers and be a part of the “local dog society” is also important for many of us.

An active local dog training club, with skilled instructors, a well-developed learning system, dog teaching at different levels and with different type of training and nice atmosphere is an important asset to each local society.

The seminar has a major focus on AGILITY as dog activity – and good learning and teaching principles and systems for dog handlers wanting to learn about and to have agility as their dog activity. Agility is fo rmany people a good way into systematic dog avtivity and training, it looks fun to practice and seems to be a good way to attract "normal" dog owners to dog clubs. Atthe same time agility also is a top level international dog sport. Other dog activities as obedience and working dog activities will also be covered, and for most local dog clubs they have diffrerent types of acitivities.

A well structured and thoughtfully planned teaching system developes the handlers and through this also the dogs. For the club to be attractive to dog persons in long term experience shows that it is necessary to have a focus on the learning process itself, a dog that is learning and devceloping is normally a happy dog.
